Proper planning can help make your company website successful. The planning phase is often overlooked by businesses for several reasons. However, planning plays an important role in creating an effective website. Developing a detailed plan for your web project will make reaching your performance goals easier.
The planning process can be broken down into three sections: identifying your website needs, developing a plan to achieve those needs, and implementing that plan. Using this planning approach will significantly decrease time spent in the development phase by eliminating uncertainty with how you want your website to function or appear. Most web developers charge by the hour which makes last minute changes costly. Having a well-thought out plan will help avoid
these unnecessary costs.
Identifying your website needs
Use this phase to brainstorm ideas and determine what you will need to make your website successful. Make sure to ask yourself the following: what do you want your website to accomplish, how will you build and maintain it, and what is my budget for this project. Include your past web development experiences as well. Use the good and bad experiences to further develop your plan.
Develop a plan to achieve your website needs
Take the ideas and needs from the first phase and start formulating your plan. Adjust this plan based upon your past experiences. Make sure to include the good experiences while avoiding the situations that caused previous problems. Review your plan in order to ensure that it’s obtainable.
Implement the plan
Once you have finalized the plan, you can now move forward and start developing the website.
These three steps will help make your website more effective. It will also shift most the decision making before the development stage which saves you money. Remember, effective websites are the result of great planning; so make sure to plan accordingly. To print the Easy Click Website Planning handout used in seminars, click here.
